01 November, Lisburn City Library, 11am-3pm

Talking about death and grief can be difficult but being prepared, planning ahead and getting practical advice can help both you and your loved ones. Along with Libraries' NI, we invite members of the public to come to Lisburn City Library on Friday 1 November to meet with service providers and support organisations to better understand and prepare for the challenges and decisions that we will all face in the future, whether emotional, medical, legal or financial.

From 11:00am to 3:00pm there will be various stands throughout the library with staff from a range of organisations who will be on hand to offer essential advice and help.

Throughout the event, there will be short seminars from experts:

  • 11:15am - National Association of Funeral Directors
  • 12 noon - Cruse Bereavement Care
  • 12:45pm - Belfast Hospice
  • 1:30pm - Commissioner for Older People NI Legal Services
  • 2:15pm - Compassionate Communities

COPNI Head of Legal and Advocacy Services will discuss key topics relevant to older people, their families, and carers, aiming to provide information that empowers individuals to proactively plan for the future.

The discussion will cover the need for Enduring Powers of Attorney, Controllerships, and the legal and practical aspects of managing the loss of capacity. It will also address the transition to supported care, whether in the community or in a care facility, ensuring people’s wishes are respected and properly managed.

Everyone is invited to drop into this event anytime between 11:00am and 3:00pm, booking is not necessary but if you would like further information please contact Lisburn City Library on 028 9266 9345 or email lisburncity.library@librariesni.org.uk.
