Magical Mournes image takes top spot in annual Christmas photography competition!

The Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland is delighted to announce the winner of his annual Christmas photography competition. This year’s theme, “Christmas through my eyes,” invited entrants to capture the festive season from their own unique perspectives.

Taking the top spot is Darian Shotton, whose  photograph of the snowy Mourne Mountains caught the Commissioner's eye. Darian resides in Holywood, Co. Down, but took the photograph from her apartment patio at The Quay in Dundrum.

Eddie Lynch, Commissioner for Older People commented on the winning image:

"Once again, we received an extremely high standard of entries, and it was a very difficult decision to choose just one entry, but among the impressive photos, one really stood out for me."

"Darian’s photograph is a lovely representation of this year’s theme, as it captures the serene beauty of Northern Ireland at this time of year – Darian is very fortunate to have that view on her doorstep. Congratulations again to Darian on a well-deserved win!"

"I want to thank  all the talented participants who submitted their photographs to my last ever competition as Commissioner!"

Darian who has won a £100 gift card of her choice, along with her winning photo featuring on the Commissioner’s Christmas card, reflected on her winning image:

"It speaks to me of peace, calmness, the beauty of nature, and the gentle stillness of quiet waters. I feel it is the perfect view on which to meditate, especially when needing to relax away from the hustle and bustle, and stress of modern life. I’m so glad the Commissioner has chosen it, and I hope it brings a happy smile to all the faces who see it. It certainly does that for me."
