The aftermath of Storm Éowyn has brought widespread disruption to Northern Ireland. The storm’s intense winds and heavy rainfall have caused significant damage to infrastructure, leaving around 75,000 people without power. Older individuals, who may already face challenges are especially vulnerable during this time.

In addition to power outages, fallen trees, flooding, and debris have created hazardous conditions in many areas. We are urging everyone to prioritize the safety and well-being of older people by checking in with relatives, friends, and neighbours to ensure they are safe, warm, and have access to essential supplies.

Be wary of rogue traders ⚠

Sadly, storms often bring opportunistic rogue traders who exploit repair needs. Trading Standards NI are warning people to be wary of tradesmen offering substandard or overpriced services.

If you have home insurance, it’s important to contact your insurer as soon as you can to check that you are covered for storm damage.
