Happy one year in post to the Commissioner, and what a year it’s been! Since 7 April last year, the Commissioner has been listening, engaging and driving change for older people across Northern Ireland. Over the past 12 months she has:

- Met with 3,270 older people, hearing directly about their experiences and priorities

- Gathered over 1200 survey responses to shape her new corporate plan and determine her priorities for the years ahead

- Published a series of reports, including the widely covered ‘Voices of Concern’, highlighting the impact of pressures in health and social care on older people

- Published recommendations on the new Adult Protection Bill, providing oral evidence to the Health Committee in order to help strengthen protections for older people

- Spoken out in the media on a range of key issues, from health and social care to scams, winter pressures and support for older people.

With plenty of speaking engagements and meetings with decision makers, this has been a year focused on making sure older people are heard, valued and protected. Watch the video to hear directly from the Commissioner as she reflects on her first year and looks ahead.
