The Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland has launched "Right here, right now", a Corporate Plan which aims to bring real and positive change for the ageing population in Northern Ireland.
Commenting on the corporate plan, Eddie Lynch said:
"I am pleased to publish my second corporate plan as Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland. The development of this plan has been very different from previous ones, it gives focus to key actions needed by Government to plan for an ageing population and Covid 19 recovery, based on the devastating impact that the coronavirus pandemic has had on life in Northern Ireland, particularly on older people.”
“This document sets out my priorities, and the work my office will take forward this year and up until 2024. I am keen to do my utmost for the remainder of my term to address the real issues that older people have told me are important to them.
The Commissioner’s priorities are centered around the overarching theme of Tackling Ageism, focusing around six issues:
- Impact of Covid-19- Call for Public Inquiry into care homes
- Tackling loneliness and isolation
- Crime against older people
- Affordable energy
- Older people as a priority in Programme for Government
- Health and Social care - Domiciliary care and hospitals
