The Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland attended an event today linking older adults to services and activities within their local community.
The Commissioner joined a number of speakers at the ‘Spring wellbeing’ event at The Coleraine Lodge Hotel. Hosted by Community Navigator for 50+ Causeway and Moyle, and Causeway Older Active Strategic Team, the event welcomed over 100 attendees from the local area.
Speaking at the event, Eddie Lynch, The Commissioner for Older People, said, “The past two years made it impossible to have my usual engagements with older people across Northern Ireland and I greatly missed the richness of those engagements. It's fantastic to be here today in Coleraine meeting with older people again face to face.”
Informational talks were also given from the PSNI, NIFRS, Home Accident Prevention, Make the Call NI and Cook IT NHSCT team provided a cookery demonstration.
Ciara Forsythe, Community Navigator for Older People, Causeway & Moyle said,
“We have hosted a series of these events across the region including Ballycastle in November, Loughgiel in December and now this one today in Coleraine.
The events are free and open to the public, aimed at those aged 60 and above as well as carers and family with relatives in this age range.
These events are extremely well received, due to the pandemic and prolonged isolation we have all experienced over the past few years. It’s important now more than ever that people know we are here for them and that there are services out there willing and ready to support them.”
